Sammanfattning

The article describes changes in dental caries, periodontal conditions as well as trends in prevalence of apical periodontitis and endodontic treatment among random samples of 35-year-olds in Oslo, Norway in 10-year intervals from 1973 to 2003. The results indicate that marked reduction in caries and treatment experience in this group started in 1993 with further decline in 2003. Improvement in periodontal conditions and oral hygiene scores was also observed during this period. There has been a decrease in prevalence of root filled teeth and apical periodontitis in 1993 compared to 1973 and 1984, with no further substantial changes in 2003. An increase in the proportion of root filled teeth with apical periodontitis from 1973 to 2003 was observed. The results indicate that the dental health among 35-year-olds in Oslo has improved substantially during this 30-year period.
