Sammanfattning
The article depicts children as relatives of critically ill parents as an overlooked social problem in Denmark - including in nursing. The focal point of the article is a case involving nine-year-old Mikkel, whose father has cancer. The article presents a possible solution on haematology ward L at Herlev Hospital, where a nursing standard in respect of children as relatives will ensure follow-up and continuity in caring for the family and the patient's children. The article also presents several new research articles on the subject, and the new Danish children's web-book ?Da Mikkels far blev syg" (?When Mikkel's Dad became ill"). The book is based on research about children as relatives and on narrative theory. It was designed by Michael White and adapted for nursing by Lorna Bennett. The book is aimed at children aged 9-11 who do not want to talk about their feelings, and can be used at home, on the ward or elsewhere in communication between children and adults.
