Nurses must break from the principle of planning the level of information based on constructed categories, e.g. age, social status and disease. Nurses should focus more on adapting information to the individual based on the latter's preferences in order to be able to give a proper response.
A questionnaire-based study among ward nurses at Odense University Hospital from au-tumn 2008 shows that all those nurses who responded felt that patients had sought knowledge about their disease and treatment. Nurses feel that this is significant in terms of the information they give patients.
