Sammanfattning
Background: This article describes a pilot project conducted at Ward A6 at Randers Regional Hospital. Prior to the study, ward nurses experienced that TURP patients had less pain and discomfort if the hematuria catheter was clamped before removal.
Objective: To study whether clamping hematuria catheters would decrease sensations of discomfort and hasten time to first micturition and thus discharge from hospital.
Method: Consecutive interventional study of 40 TURP patients.
Results: There was no apparent effect of clamping catheters concerning the experience of discomfort or time to micturition and therefore discharge from hospital.
Nursing implications: This pilot project has led to the drafting of written guidelines for the removal of hematuria catheters.
