Sammanfattning
Today functional somatic disorder is a concept generally recommended to classify symptoms and syndromes when no organic cause has been found. The concept includes and signifies that a non-organic disorder may have multiple causes. However, the important connection between long-standing negative stress and the symptom is often not clarified. The psychosomatic concept, declaring this connection, has been pushed aside. Is it time to re-establish a modernized psychosomatic concept in order to improve the diagnostic process? Three case presentations illustrate this position.
