Sammanfattning
There is an increase of elderly people with chronic disorders i.e. chronic ischemic heart
disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The majority of the patients with
frequently needs of inpatient care do live alone. A specialized ward for elderly patients
was therefore established at Uddevalla Hospital in November 2008. The elderly patients were
supposed to come to this specialized ward directly and not pass the ordinary emergency care.
Still there is a hard work to optimize the inpatient care to outpatient primary care. These can help both the health care system and the patients, but further studies must be made to verify these findings and to answer more questions.
