Sammanfattning

Time during or after hospitalization in a psychi- atric ward is a well-known high-risk period for suicide. In 2013 the Norwegian patient safety campaign “In Safe Hands” completed a learning collaborative to implement suicide prevention interventions in acute psychiatric inpatient wards. All Norwegian hospitals were invited to participate with teams from acute psychiatric wards. Of the 22 participating teams represen- ting 17 hospitals, all wrote final reports. The reports were reviewed and analyzed with parti- cular attention towards which interventions had led to change, what the challenges were in relation to implementation and whether the teams had reported any effects besides the in- terventions. Several of the 22 teams that parti- cipated represented district psychiatric centers. Although most units reported they had proce- dures for some of the program interventions, none had implemented the whole intervention package ahead of the learning collaborative. The interventions that most teams reported improvement on were the establishment of a crisis plan, the intervention called "appointment - in- the hand" which implies that all patients receive an appointment upon discharge, and contact with relatives. The final reports also indicate that participation in a learning collaborative have led to improved procedures for documentation for several wards
