Sammanfattning
In the work with the Malmö Commission we were given the opportunity to show
how urban planning processes can be used to achieve more equal opportunities
for the people of Malmö. The described challenges were the existence of
neighbourhoods that are perceived as geographically isolated enclaves with a
lack of contact with other areas and where residents exhibit their own lifestyles
and normalities. In this context, the opportunities and challenges with urban
planning is by changing the physical environment in order to integrate geographic
enclaves, so that people with different backgrounds have an opportunity
to take part in each other’s normalities. With physical design it is possible
to facilitate measures that strengthen social capital and enable both physical
and mental networks within and between regions. Urban planning processes
hold great opportunities to involve residents and other stakeholders in co-creation
processes, which in itself is health promotion as it contributes to participation
and societal influence.
