A prerequisite for optimal dental treatment is eff ec-
tive communication with the patient. The dental professional deals with many patient psychologi-
cal aspects, including registration and observa-
tion of the patient’s anxiety, pain and oral-well-
being, as well as responsibility for the working environment including prevention and handling of
stress in the dental team. For these purposes a number of questionnaires have been developed, to
be used in the clinic as a part of the diagnostic interview. These are a combination of quantitati-
ve and qualitative observations, currently consi-
dered the most valid methods for registration of psychological data.
