Sammanfattning

Osteonecrosis of the jaws is a serious complication in patients treated with bisphosphonates. Tooth extraction is a high risk procedure in these patients. We report two patients with multiple myeloma and treated with intravenous administration of bisphosphonates for seven or six years respectively, where orthodontic extrusion was used to remove teeth in order to minimize surgical trauma and reduce the risk for osteonecrosis. In both cases the treatments were free of complications and the time period for treatment was four and three months respectively. Follow up, four and three years after teeth removal showed no signs of osteonecrosis. Thus, orthodontic extraction of teeth seemed to be a feasible alternative to surgical treatment in patients at risk of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws.
