Sammanfattning
Despite immigrants’ increasing share and importance in professional care work in all parts of
Norway, our knowledge of this group remains limited. This article makes a contribution to this
emerging field, drawing on data from an in-depth qualitative study with 17 immigrants working as
professionals in the healthcare sector in Finnmark. Focusing on relational dimensions in the
migrants’ stories about working in this sector, the article shows that several of the informants
emphasize that they are able to establish confidence and trust in their relationships to different
users, some of whom eventually become almost like family members. The migrants also stress that
they feel respected by colleagues and leaders at the work place.
