Public mammography screening was introduced in Norway in 1996. The goal was to reduce mortality from breast cancer by 30 per cent. In 2006, the Research Council of Norway was charged with evaluating
the Mammography Programme. The report contains a number of self-contradictions: screening does not cause fewer women to develop neoplasm metastasis, but nevertheless reduces breast cancer mortality.
