Aspiration therapy with AspireAssist is a novel endoscopic obesity treatment. Patients aspirate about 30% of an ingested meal through a draining system via a percutanous endoscopic gastrostomy tube. AspireAssist was recently approved by the FDA, and it induces weight loss comparable to bariatric surgery but with a lower risk. Few clinical studies about the efficacy/safety of AspireAssist have been carried out, so further intervention studies evaluating acute and long-term effects are warranted.
