Sammanfattning

FIRE is an organization based upon volunteering that has its work targeted at people with various health problems originating from substance abuse and/or poor mental health. The current study set out to survey potential changes in important factors that FIRE members attribute to participation (or not) in FIRE’s various activities. Furthermore, the respondents also answered questions that targeted health-promoting aspects of perceived competence and relatedness. Seventy-one adult members participated in the on-line survey. The results indicated that FIRE activities had a positive and health-promoting effect on the participants. Organizations like FIRE might thus be a supplementary intervention in the treatment and aftermath of substance abuse and/or mental health problems.
