Sammanfattning

Aim: The aim of the present study was to describe, at the level of providers, patients and drugs, prescription from Norwegian dental providers from the Norwegian Prescription Database (NorPD). Material and methods: Raw-data was delivered in one prescription-file and one occupation-file. The prescription-file included all drugs delivered from Norwegian pharmacies in 2015 prescribed by dental providers. Data was analyzed in IBM® SPSS® statistics, version 24. Results: Approximately 5000 dental providers were registered in Norway in 2015, and 50,4% were female. Dental providers prescribed drugs to nearly 200 000 Norwegian patients. A total of 335 723 drugs was prescribed by dental providers. Male providers prescribed more drugs (46), compared to female providers (32). Antibiotic drugs (50,2%) was the major prescription. However, 270 different ATC-codes were prescribed by Norwegian dental providers. Some dentists prescribe drugs in greater quantities than what is legal, and some dentists prescribe drugs not applicable in dental or oral treatment. Coclusion: Antibiotic and analgesic drugs dominated prescription from dentists. Nearly all prescriptions from dental providers were legal, and according to the legislation.
