20 patients and 20 district nurses
were given questinaires, on the
quality of the care of suprapubic
catheters, two weeks after discharge.
The aim was to monitor the effectivnes
of the information on
suprapubic care, given by the
nursing staff in the hospital.
The district nurses had observed,
that one fifth of the patients had
sign of redness and skin irritation
around the suprapubic catheter.
It can be considered to use Clean
Intermittent Catherisation with
patients with post surgery
urinary retention.
The investigation shows the
importance of the hospital nurse
giving clear information to the
district nurse on discharge, when
a patient is discharged with a
suprapubic catheter.
