Sammanfattning
Accreditation of postgraduate medical education is a mech-anism by which an external institution assesses the quality of training programmes according to a predefined set of standards. In this article we compare the North American accreditation procedures with the Danish inspection system. The major difference is that of externally imposed controls in North America versus formative quality improvement in Denmark. The literature on the effect of quality assurance programmes in medical education is sparse, and there is a need for more research into this area.
