Heterotopic or ectopic gastric mucosa has been found in all levels of the gastrointestinal tract but is seldom seen in the rectum. Most patients are admitted due to painless rectal bleeding. Upon endoscopic examination, most cases show a polypoid elevation, occasionally with ulceration. The treatment is excision of the mucosa. A 19-year-old male patient with polypoid ectopic gastric mucosa in the rectum is described. Endoscopic ultrasound was used to evaluate the extent of ectopic tissue, and a radical mucosectomy was subsequently performed.
