Sammanfattning
The patient safety ward round is a method which has been developed with the purpose of moving the focus on patient safety from the administrative department into the individual units and the actual wards, i.e. where patients stay, and accidental incidents occur. On specific days, the nurse and the doctor will pay particular attention to patient safety, by identifying potential safety risks to all patients during their ward rounds. Together they fill in a questionnaire for each patient, noting whether the quality is acceptable in specific areas. They will ask questions about issues, such as whether the patient's medication is correctly prescribed, whether the patient can reach his or her call cord, or whether the patient is wearing non-skid footwear. Based on this information, plans are then made for improving quality. In the patient safety ward round, we have found a pedagogical method for nurse and doctor to check up on the quality of their own work and the work of their colleagues with the patients, and so become aware of how they themselves can provide a better quality in general.
