Sammanfattning
Women in early pregnancy approach their hospital for an acute scan even though they are experiencing minimal discomfort. They have difficulty dealing with the risk of losing their planned child and worry when they observe unexpected symptoms during pregnancy. Although thrilled to find they are pregnant the women are acutely aware of the possibility of miscarrying during the first three months. They actively seek more knowledge of unexpected problems during pregnancy but are not put at ease by the general information given them by professionals. They want to be sure that they are not about to lose their child.
The women have social networks, and they find friends' experiences with pregnancy problems particularly helpful.
The results of the survey are based on seven interviews with women bearing planned children, carried out during the first three months of pregnancy. The women had approached Hvidovre Hospital emergency clinic for examination and to have an ultrasonic scan. None of the women's pregnancies were diagnosed as a miscarriage.
