Sammanfattning

In this article, central theories of learning in practice are discussed in relation to medical education, especially the first clinical stay. In the light of a project in the ward, the article attempts to demonstrate the importance of this stay, which is vital to students' development of a professional identity. In the theories of learning in practice, it is stressed that learning and development of a professional identity are inextricably linked. The article discusses what impact clinical stays have on students. It is stressed that it is necessary to create a structure for ward-based learning that will incorporate students into the daily working routine.
