Sammanfattning
The article presents local strategies to ensure a reasonable standard of living
and reflections from our study within The Commission for a Socially Sustainable
Malmö regarding minimum income protection. Increased income inequality
in combination with a substantial share of Malmö citizens excluded position to
the regulated labour market and social welfare protection contributes to risks
of social and health related problems. The article also presents how the City
of Malmö in policy and practice handles issues regarding reasonable standard
of living and material standards for social welfare recipients. The respondents
of the study agreed that the level of benefits were inadequate to meet the recipients
needs. The capacity for a municipality to be an actor in order to reduce
negative consequences of child poverty are also discussed.
