Sammanfattning

The principle of participation is a systematic work method which has proven useful in practice, in this instance in relation to a project on the working environment. The method's point of the departure is that the staff manage the activities to be initiated. The distribution of tasks and responsibilities is established so that staff are familiar with the job they have to do and aware of their responsibilities. The job of top management is primarily to provide the group with support and extensive freedom of action. In the authors' view, the project's positive results can be attributed to use of the principle of participation as the project involved the elements which must be present for participatory intervention to be implemented successfully. The new culture and the pro-cess initiated with a view to changing and improving the work environment continued after the end of the project period.
