Sammanfattning
The article is intended for nurses who want to avoid stress. The main message is that by recognising the symptoms of stress, people can do something about it before the pressure gets too great.
The article is based on experiences with group supervision in home care, in which stress has been one of the themes.
Preventing stress demands the attention of individual nurses and to a high degree that of management as well.
Because personal stress originates in our tasks, roles and ways of relating to ourselves, reflection in a group is an extremely practical approach. One cannot simply teach people what stress is al about. If individuals are to change their habits and their way of thinking they must have time to reflect on the way they do things.
Another important point is that something which may stress one nurse is not stressful to another. We are all different, at different stages in our professional and personal lives, have different ways of handling stressful situations and have different managers. All this is of tremendous significance to our emotions and with them, the way in which our physical reactions manifest themselves.
