Sammanfattning
Since 2001, Danish pharmacists have been allowed to offer consumers mechanically dose-dispensed medicine. This means that the dosage of medication, e.g. carried out manually by health visitors in their care of the elderly, can now be done by the pharmacists, which can supply medication packaged for 14 days consumption. A number of municipalities already have experience in the introduction and use of this new technology.
A medical technology-evaluation of Mechanical Dose-dispensing (MD) shows there is reason to expect that MD will help reduce the risk of dosage-related errors, i.e. in the actual packaging process. Experience shows that MD has freed up staff resources and allowed for greater flexibility in planning work routines. However, it has also shown that the system does not suit all users of medication and that it requires the implementation of well thought-out organisational changes and clear agreement regarding the future organisation of medication hand-ling.
