Sammanfattning
Prosthetic infection is a feared complication to surgery with alloplastics and has a high degree of comorbidity. Prophylaxis is concentrated on commonly-accepted hygienic behaviour, optimization of the patient's general health status, peri-operative antibiotics (one dose before surgery and again after eight, 16 and 24 hours) and antibiotic loaded cement. Laminary flow reduces the risk of prosthesis infection but there is no clear evidence of any effect to concomitant antibiotic prophylaxis.
