Sammanfattning

Three new endovenous treatment modalities for great saphenous vein varicosities are presented in this review; two methods are catheter based with laser or radiofrequency and the third method is injection of foam, all under ultrasonographic guidance. The purpose is to obliterate the great saphenous vein. A number of articles present results after 3-5 years with an occlusion rate of almost 90%, some of which require treatment of local varicosities. Persisting side effects are minimal, and treatment does not require general anaesthesia. There is a lack of RTC assessing the methods in comparison to standard surgery and the methods among themselves.
