Sammanfattning
The Nexö Method is a non-operative programme of caries treatment, devised and implemented in 1987-1988t in the Public Dental Health Service for Children in Nexö, Denmark. This article describes the goals, as well as the daily employment, scientific rationale and efficiency of the method. Finally, the Nexö Method is discussed from the standpoint of health promotion, as the term is used today. The mean DMF-S recorded for18-year-olds in Nexö during the years 1993 (3.73) to 2000 (1.25), fell by about 66 %; cost/child/ year fell by about 15 %. Thus, the main goals stated in 1988 were achieved. A cost/effect analysis showed that during the period when the method was employed, the difference between Nexö and the national mean index clearly rose in favour of Nexö. The conclusion is that the different elements of the Nexö Method are in accordance with recommendations of the Danish National Board of Health for oral promotion in the new millennium.
