Sammanfattning

Both experience-based knowledge and the results of studies have given us a more optimistic perception of the illness schizophrenia. The studies show that half of those who suffer from the disease can recover to some extent. Since 2001, Lyngby-Taarbæk and Søllerød District Psychiatry has been using resource group meetings as part of its treatment of mentally disordered users. We have chosen a recovery-oriented approach because at District Psychiatry we strive to expand users' mastering strategies as part of a gradually process of recovery. The meetings invite the users and their close-knit networks to co-operate. A typical meeting will be attended by the user, his/her family, a contact person from municipal psychiatry, a caseworker, the prison service and two staff from District Psychiatry. Resource group meetings are wide-ranging; from pure planning meetings to family therapy and problem-solving intervention. Psychoeducative sessions are often involved and important family-dynamic contexts are frequently reflected.
