Sammanfattning
The article describes the background and content of a practice based research project in a large oncology ward related to young adults with cancer. The project consisted of several small independent projects where the focus was chosen by the participants, among these: corporation with the relatives of young cancer patients, developing contact nursing to young palliative cancer patients, physical activities available to young cancer patients, outpatient nursing of young women with gynaecological cancer, young families' use of district nursing, establishment of satisfactory treatment-and care trajectories for young patients with cancer, the significance of nutrition, young people who are dying, single parents and a model for co-operation between researchers and staff in practice.
The main interdisciplinary message is that staff found that young people and their relatives generally make more and varied demands on involvement, activation, continuity and information. This gives rise to numerous challenges concerning organisation, communication and knowledge, which can also benefit other patients and relatives. The participating projects have resulted in articles which will be published in a book about young people with cancer.
