Sammanfattning
The article relates to the experience of parents in their technologically dependent child's transition from hospital-based care to 24-hour home nursing care.
The background to this report is that developments in respiratory technology over recent de-cades have improved the likelihood of these children surviving birth trauma, extreme prematurity, or complications resulting from accidents or illnesses which were previously incompatible with life. Further technological advancements have made it possible for these children to receive professional nursing care at home for up to twenty-four hours a day.
A structured literature search was performed and nine primary studies found which were deem-ed suitable to resolve the issue under investigation.
The findings suggested that the transition of a technologically dependent child from hospital-based care to home nursing care is not without problems. The recommendation is for increased focus on this area of nursing and on the experience of parents whose technologically depen-dent children are receiving home nursing care.
