Asthma is currently the most common respiratory disease related to work in industrialized countries. If one does not reduce the exposure, occupational asthma tends to become chronic despite treatment of symptoms. A 39-year-old man presented with acute dyspnoea. He was healthy, except for an annoying rhinitis. Despite worsening of symptoms, no action was taken in relation to his work situation. This case highlights the importance of asking all adult patients with new onset asthma about their occupational exposures, so that necessary action may be taken to ensure that the disease is not worsened.
