Sammanfattning

Round ligament varices (RLV) are an uncommon cause of inguinal lump during pregnancy. It may be indistinguishable from an inguinal hernia. RLV may be bi- or unilateral and usually disappear within a few weeks after delivery. The inguinal lump may be painful, are often reducible and normally disappear in recumbent position. Complications in form of thrombosis or bleeding have been described. Since RLV tend to reappear in case of a new pregnancy prophylactic treatment: for example resection of the round ligament veins between the outer and inner inguinal ring might be attractive. Data on Laparoscopic treatment is lacking, but are probably less effective since it does not reduce inflow from the outer inguinal orifice. Resection during pregnancy should be avoided due to the possibility for alterations in uteral blood flow and a subsequent risk for abortion.
