Sammanfattning
The aim of this study was to describe the dental health and dental health behaviour of two year old children in Oslo, and to identify children who needed caries prevention. Of 200 children 86 % showed up for examination. Seven percent of the children had caries or visible plaque, 24 % of the children with non-western background, and six percent of the children with western background. A substantial part of the two year olds had unhealthy dental behaviours. Six percent did not have their teeth brushed every day, and 50 % did not brush twice a day. Twenty percent drank milk or sugarcontaining beverages during the night and 20 % ate sweets between meals every day. Compared with other children, children with caries or plaque had started tooth brushing later, brushed more seldom and more often did not use toothpaste with fluoride. These children more often drank milk or sugar containing beverages during the night and more often had sweets between meals. The study indicates that some children need a dental examination before the age of three years.
