Sammanfattning

Sexually transmitted infections (STI) have in the past decade dramatically increased in both Sweden and in other countries around the world. In Sweden there are no national guidelines for how the health clinics should work with STIs, except regulations and guidelines for contact tracing. During year 2007, questionnaires were sent out to different categories of clinics all over Sweden (incl. primary health care centres and private health care) that had reported Chlamydia cases in the previous year. We received 564 (69%) out of 819 questionnaires. The study shows that the clinics work differently with STI. STI-clinics and youth clinics have a more developed STI-work than other clinics. They ask more questions about the patient's sexual history, they give more STI-information and they carry out contact tracing to a greater extent. Many clinics need more education about taking the patients sexual history, counselling and contact tracing.
