Sammanfattning
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is common already in the middle aged. A meniscal lesion may be the first sign of OA development and further accelerate the disease process. Reduced muscle strength and neuromuscular function increases the risk of future knee pain and knee OA, and exercise may prevent the onset of future knee pain and knee OA. Information, exercise and weight reduction constitutes first line treatment of knee OA and is effective alone, but also increases the effect of pharmacological and surgical treatments like knee replacement. Arthroscopic surgery as treatment of meniscal lesions or OA in the middle aged lacks evidence. Multi professional team care provides optimal treatment for the middle aged person with knee OA.
