Sammanfattning
Resurficing hip arthroplasty has become increasingly popular in recent years. A cementless acetabular component is combined with cemented cup placed on the femoral head. The potential benefits are femoral bone conservation, possible increased functional ability and ease of potential revision surgery, at least on the femoral side. The disadvantage is an over all increased risk of early failure due to fracture of the collum femoris and loosening of the acetabular component. In young men (younger than 60 years) the result are in level with that of conventional hip arthroplasty but for women, especially small women, the results are inferior. One concern is also the elevated levels of cobolt and chromium ions in serum due to the metal-on-metal articulation.
