Sammanfattning

This competence development project between the Wound-healing Resource Centre (Videncenter for Sårheling), Bispebjerg Hospital, Nørrebro Elderly Care Office and the Health and Care Administration Board, Copenhagen Municipality, has demonstrated the benefits of training in wound-care management. The nurses have increased their wound-care knowledge and, to some extent, their knowledge of preventing development of sores. However, the newly-acquired knowledge is only reflected in some areas of clinical practice. The project dealt with two identical three-day courses for nurses in the Nørrebro area, both involving a questionnaire and a survey prior to and after the course. The purpose of the questionnaire was to establish the nurses’ general knowledge of wound-care management. The aim of the survey was to observe clinical practice and documentation of this in patients’ homes. Based on the conclusions of the survey and questionnaire, the following recommendations are made for communicating this knowledge on a local level. Focus on preventing problem wounds, ongoing competence development within the area of wound care, development of wound-care documentation, quality assurance of wound-care management, consideration of the need for one or more specialists in wounds and wound-care management (wound-care nurses). Key words: Competence development, wound-care, wound-care management, primary nurses.
