The number of premature children in Denmark is increasing, and these children and their families need timely and focused professional input in order to secure the child's stable development. The article describes the provision of care offered by health visitors to premature children in Skive municipality. The offer consists of an increased number of visits, a premature baby consultant, an "Open House" package, close cooperation with homecare coordinators and other relevant municipal administrators. The author calls for better intra-regional cooperation in the attempt to avoid pathological development of the child's innate immaturity.
