Sammanfattning
The Swedish vaccination programme was revised in 2007. Children born from 2002 are since then recommended a full dose booster against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis at school start and a reduced antigen booster before leaving school. A catch-up booster dose is recommended for children born 1996-2001 in the form of a single full-dose vaccination at 10 years-of-age. Two studies both demonstrated a high frequency of local reactions to full dose vaccination at this age, with 20-35% of 219 subjects reporting redness or swelling of 5 cm or more over 5-6 days. Immunogenicity in 143 pupils was satisfactory showing an antibody response to all antigens regardless of previous vaccination with acellular or whole cell vaccine, and even in children with no previous pertussis vaccination. Furthermore, an antibody response to fimbriae 2/3 was seen in some children even though fimbriae 2/3 was not an ingredient of the booster vaccine. These results depend on natural priming as well as vaccine priming.
