Sammanfattning

The standardized operational techniques available today make it possible to perform extensive surgery for the treatment of craniofacial malformations and advanced tumours in this anatomically complex region. The new techniques of computer-assisted surgery systems help surgeons to accurately carry out preoperative plans without injuring anatomically important structures. Advances in the basic scientific research within the field of computer-assisted surgery have enabled us to introduce features of these techniques into routine clinical practice. Presented is an orthognathic case where the accuracy of conventional preoperative planning was checked by means of computer-assisted navigation (VectorVision 2, Brain Lab) during surgery.
