Sammanfattning

The article describes the results from an evaluation of nurse training in palliative care in the primary and secondary health care sectors. The evaluation is based on questionnaires (n=74) and a focus group interview. The results show, amongst other things, that 66 per cent of those key personnel who have taken the training, are still involved in palliative care. Eighty-five per cent expressed that the training has been highly significant to their day-to-day practice. Emphasis was placed on having achieved a much more nuanced approach in their work with the terminally ill and their relatives. This included being better qualified to cope with work-related tasks, including being more at the forefront of situations, having greater trust in their own judgement, and generally having more creativity in relation to problem solving. Many of the nurses have been able to focus on the potential existing in interdisciplinary cooperation. A central problem area is that key personnel seek the managers' involvement in creating frameworks for supervision, training and developing the palliative-care role.
