Sammanfattning

Liver biopsy is standard for evaluation of liver fibrosis but non-invasive methods are used more and more. Patients with chronic hepatitis C who had done a liver biopsy within 2 years from measuring their liver elasticity were retrospectively studied at the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Karolinska University Hospital. Low-and high grade fibrosis was defined as fibrosis stage F0-F2 and F3-F4, respectively. GUCI-score was determined with the use of ASAT, INR and platelet levels.Totally 62 patients with chronic hepatitis C were included. Measuring of liver elasticity with Fibroscan could differentiate advanced from non-advanced liver fibrosis with high statistical significance, p < 0.001, and can replace liver biopsy for fibrosis evaluation in the majority of patients with chronic hepatitis C.
