Sammanfattning
Since 2006, Region Västra Götaland, Sweden, offers the possibility for inhabitants to order a home Chlamydia test package via the Internet free of charge. During the first six months of 2008, the Internet clinic accounted for 10.5 percent of a total 42,257 individuals tested in the region. The gender distribution among the persons tested via the Internet was even, 49 percent were male. The majority, 84 percent, were 15-29 years old. The same age group makes up 73 percent of persons tested at ordinary clinics in the region. The proportion of positives was comparable between the Internet clinic and remaining clinics, 8.5 and 9.2 percent respectively. We conclude that self risk assessment and testing via the Internet is an important complement for health care providers in combating the Chlamydia epidemic.
