Sammanfattning
Ankyloglossia is a congenital anomaly characterized by restricted mobility of the tongue tip, due to an abnormally short lingual frenulum. 35 neonates with ankyloglossia and breast-feeding problems were treated with frenotomy in Kalmar hospital between 2004 and 2008. A follow-up phone call was made after 2-3 weeks. 32 of the former 35 children were examined in the spring of 2009. The aim of the study was to investigate whether frenotomy in neonates with ankyloglossia gives improved ability to breastfeed and to examine the postoperative function and status of the tongue. The results of the frenotomy were positive according to the parents, but the breast-feeding ability did not improve. No adverse scarring or recurrent ankyloglossia were found in the follow-up control.
