Sammanfattning
Chronic liver diseases often result in progressive fibrosis with cirrhosis, portal hypertension and increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. Our imaging modalities, including ultrasound (US), multidetector computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are important for correct diagnosis, whereas their grading and staging of liver fibrosis and early cirrhosis is insufficient. New MRI techniques, such as diffusion weighted MRI, magnetic resonance spectroscopy and elastography, are promising. Low voltage and dual energy CT offer new opportunities, however, studies are lacking. Contrast enhanced ultrasound is a promising technique. Ultrasound-based transient elastography is the easiest and fastest method for diagnosis of significant cirrhosis.
