Screening med spirometri kan identifiera nya fall av astma och KOL. Offentlig lungfunktionsundersökning på Stockholms centralstation
Sammanfattning
During the ERS lung conference in Stockholm 2007, free spirometry tests were offered to the public, attracting over 2800 participants 6-95 years of age. Of the technically accepted tests (86%), 16% showed signs of obstruction and 4% had a restrictive pattern. Overall, 76% of the participants had never undergone a spirometry test previously, including many of those who had reported risk factors such as asthma, productive coughing, severe shortness of breath, or smokers over 45 years of age. According to the Swedish national treatment programmes, persons with suspected asthma or COPD should be offered lung function tests. Furthermore, a spirometry test is required for a diagnosis of COPD.
The event received much media coverage which included information on lung health. In conclusion, spirometry screening can identify persons with airway obstruction, who should be recommended to seek further medical help.
