Sammanfattning

The article presents and clarifies existing knowledge of the daily lives of nursing home residents, and reveals that nursing home residents feel secure in their day-to-day lives - despite disruptions in personal relationships, i.e. lack of social contact, and perceived lack of self governance. These experiences are influenced in particular by external conditions. A research-based model is presented, linking the residents' central experiences together with existing internal and external conditions. The model may inspire care home personnel and politicians to an increased focus on this area in the future. It is recommended that the focus in the future be on residents' experience of a lack of social community and lack of co-determination in their everyday lives. The article is based on a Master's thesis in nursing.
