Sammanfattning

During this autumn there has been a new influenza pandemic in Sweden as well as in the rest of Europe for the first time since 1968. This time we have had access to antiviral drugs as well as a new vaccine, which specifically targets the new influenza (A/H1N1). The article deals with how the national Swedish strategy was implemented in the county of Värmland. The organisation of the efforts in Värmland is described. The strategy of antiviral therapy is described. The number of hospitalised patients was 30. No patient died or required ECMO care. The proportion of vaccinated inhabitants in Värmland was 67 % (the vaccination campaign is not yet finished). The consequences and possible benefits of the strategy are discussed.
