Sammanfattning

In a questionnaire survey conducted in 2009, all senior supervisors responsible for pediatric residents specialist training in Sweden were asked about the educational level in child abuse and neglect of their present residents and pediatricians who completed their training during 2008. The responses represented approximately 80 % of both the residents and the pediatricians with recently completed specialization. Among the latter, 35% had received training in child abuse and neglect, whereas the corresponding frequency for resident pediatricians were 27%. Moreover, the senior supervisor stated that further education within the area is desirable and 25% preferred that this training should be compulsory. The current insufficient inservice education in child abuse and neglect may result in poor management and a low identification rate of vulnerable children within the Swedish health care system.
